The Free Islands

A large archipelago just off the eastern coast of the Northern Kingdoms, the Free Islands are also known as the “Lawless Lands” and the “Fractured Realm”. The Free Islands are home to the Freelanders.

Freelanders are known as “wild men” to the smallfolk of the Northern Kingdoms. They are not, however, without culture or laws. These laws are loosely regulated, often by wandering Justiciars who obey strict personal codes and are reknown as fearsome and deadly warriors (it is often said that the law of the Free Islands is a law of blood and steel).
Freelanders live in a relatively warm temperate clime. Their men do not often wear garments over their chests, though they will on occasion don armor. They do not have large armies or wealthy landowners. Each man is free to be whatever he can make of himself.
Freelanders are pround of their free and unrestricted way of life, they are known to be quite honest and always true to their word. They appreciate martial prowess, honesty and honor.
They are fiercely loyal to other Freelanders and to anyone and anything to which they have pledged themselves. They are known for their ferocity in battle, their blunt attitudes, their steadfastness, and their loyalty. They are also very violent and while not always quick to anger once incensed they will often not stop until blood has been spilled.
The Freelanders are also known for their skill in weapons crafting. A Freelander sword is a deadly and sought after weapon. Their weapons are one of the few things they have to trade. However, instead of trading they prefer to pillage the eastern coast of the Northern Kingdoms from time to time. For this reason they are feared by the fisherfolk of the coast lands.
Many Freelanders are born with a natural wanderlust and as such they can be found throughout the world, often fighting as sellswords, or perhaps working as guardsmen for merchant caravans, or even as sailors aboard Southron ships.
